About our Branch
We are the Gogledd Cymru (North Wales) Branch of the Open University Geological Society.
The aim of our branch is to promote greater understanding of the geology that you see through
field trips, lectures, town walks and a sharing of knowledge and expertise. To help us
achieve theis we enjoy liaisions with the North Wales Geological Association (NWGA) and
both NEWRIGGS and Gwynedd and Môn RIGS, (voluntary organisations that are dedicated
to preserving our geological heritage).
The Gogledd Cymru Branch is a relatively new branch, being formed in 1997, and our members
mostly live in an area covering Powys, Ynys Môn, the North Wales coast, the Wirral and
the south side of Manchester. Our field trips are planned to reflect the enormous geological
diversity found within these areas. We also join forces with other areas to arrange field
trips and members often attend nationally and internationally organised events and usually
report their experiences back through the Branch Newsletters.
The Branch produces 5 newsletters each year, which inform members of forthcoming events and
reports of events.
Details of events from our branch or others can also be found by looking at the
events diary or by logging on to our online calendar.
